This is an illustration that I did for a poem written by Maren Droubay about our Heavenly Parents. We are collaborating to turn her poem and my illustrations into a children’s book.

This is one of my favorite lines of Maren’s poem because of the direct symbolism that The Mother has with trees. Maren wrote her poem based on the guidance of the spirit and her own personal experiences with feeling the presence of her Mother and Father. She did not base her poem off of symbolism of The Mother found in the scriptures, yet she came to the same conclusion. The Mother is in the trees.

I love the way this child is just being, well, a child. He is playing, he is climbing, he is exploring, and in so doing he is accidentally stumbling upon his Mother. Coming into Her sacred space, looking into Her eyes, being cradled by Her arms. Does he recognize that it is Her presence He feels? Or does he just know that this is a moment that feels more sacred than normal and deserves a moment of silence and reflection.

How many of us have been this child? Going about our normal lives and accidentally stumbling into our Mother’s arms? Accidentally meeting Her face to face and unknowingly gazing into Her eyes? How many of us have felt Her influence, but are only able to say years later: “That was my Mother. She has always been there”?…
